My goal for this research is to better understand grandparents' experience of grief, loss, stress, resilience, empowerment, and informal and formal supports while raising their grandchild(ren). This information will be used to create new or strengthen existing programs meant to support grandparents who are caring for their grandchildren.
To gather this information, grandparents will complete an online survey via Qualtrics. Audio recordings of all questions are embedded into the survey should you need them. If an online survey is not ideal for you for any reason, questions can be facilitated over a secure Zoom meeting software. To access Zoom, no identifying information will be gathered to retain confidentiality. Zoom meetings will only be recorded for the purpose of entering responses into Qualtrics, but will be destroyed afterward. You may also request a survey to be mailed to you with a self-addressed stamped envelope, but this will not retain anonymity. You will be informed of clinically relevant results that are discovered as part of the research.
Qualtrics is a secure survey facilitation program. No identifying information will be gathered unless you opt in to be contacted for future research opportunities (last question, not required). Should you need to respond to the survey via the phone or mail, all identifying information will be destroyed as soon as possible.
During the survey, you will be asked about personal family information and stressful events might be discussed. However, you might also experience relief or positive feelings being able to tell someone about your experience. Your participation will allow us to compare other grandparent's experiences to understand better what it is like, how resources are perceived, and allow us to consider ways to fill in gaps and/or change things to be more supportive for grandfamilies.
