Dear Teacher/Volunteer,
The Earth needs you! And we need your help in encouraging young people to explore the wide variety of careers available in the geosciences. The Geoscience Career Ambassador Training (GeoCAT) Workshop, funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF), will focus on familiarizing educators/youth volunteers with careers in the geosciences and fostering the development of materials and plans that can be incorporated in curricula and activities.

What we offer:
  • Two webinars per semester (one in the Spring and one in the Fall) featuring geoscientists working in different areas.
  • A five-day-long workshop (three days virtual and two days in person) designed to increase your knowledge of geoscience and geoscience career pathways for your students. Workshop dates are July 17-21, 2023.
  • Guidance for preparing teaching materials and outreach activities and access to a wide range of resources.
  • The title of “GeoCAT Ambassador” and a $750 stipend upon successful completion of the workshop.
  • A network of communication through the GeoCAT website.
What we ask in return is that you:
  • Engage proactively in all workshop activities.
  • Develop an action plan during the workshop to put into practice in your campus/school/youth activity.
  • Attend the follow-up meeting with GeoCAT and provide an update on the implementation of your action plan in your campus/school/youth activity.
  • Become an active member of the GeoCAT network, taking advantage of free webinars, contributing to online fora and communications to continue to build and refresh your knowledge.

The following survey asks you for some general information about yourself and your perception of the Geosciences.  Please contact Dr. Karin Goldberg (kgoldberg@ksu.edu) or the Department of Geology Office (785-532-6724) if you have any questions about this application.
