Thank you for your interest in Fresh Start! We know how difficult it can be to make time for exercise, and we want to help you by making it FUN. We're not going to tell you to spend two hours in the gym or do exercises that you hate. Fresh Start will give you ideas for easy, practical ways you can fit more bits of physical activity into your day. AND we will help you make friends along the way!
WHAT WILL WE ASK YOU TO DO?
This study will last for 9 weeks and will primarily be delivered via GroupMe. As a participant in the study, you will be placed into a group with 6-8 other freshman women and one member of the PAIR Lab (our research team). Each week, we will send you tips and ideas about physical activity, and we will encourage you to share your experiences with the group, or make arrangements to meet up as a group to be active.
We will also have you wear an activity monitor during weeks 1, 5, and 9 of the study. This is a very small monitor that is attached directly to your thigh for 7 days. You will come to Lafene Health Center to receive and return your activity monitor each time. We will also ask you to complete a few surveys online during these weeks.
WHAT WILL YOU GET?
After you return the activity monitor each time, we will send you lots of cool info about your movement patterns throughout the day - how much you sit, stand, and move. Most importantly, we hope you will finish the study with a new positive perspective about exercise, new ideas for easy ways to fit physical activity into your life, and new friends.
