Kansas State University Fall 2020 SAFE Zone Advanced Workshop - Moving Forward with Communal Response Domestic Violence Month Presentation 5
With Domestic Violence Awareness Month (DVAM) concluding, we encourage the Wildcat community to join for one final advanced DVAM Safe Zone workshop. Working to end interpersonal violence (IPV) on K-State's campus must continue past the month of October, as every person plays an important role in eliminating violence on campus. We will explore ways to collaborate and co-create methods / materials that best support our departmental needs, while still engaging in violence prevention and education efforts. Additionally, this session will discuss ways a person can intervene in IPV if: 1) someone discloses, they are currently or previously experience(d) IPV 2) you suspect someone is experiencing IPV 3) you witness abusive behavior or violence. Finally, CARE is beginning to work on creating new educational workshops and trainings to launch this spring 2021. There will be an opportunity at the end of the workshop for participants to share feedback on topics and research areas they would like to see CARE expand upon.
At Kansas State University we deeply value our Principles of Community. As such, the SafeZone program helps provide information and helps hold the K-State Family accountable to those standards. The purpose of the Kansas State University Safe Zone program is to create allies for marginalized and silenced groups. Allies are remarkably effective at promoting positive change and respect for human difference.
Allies can be any trained faculty, staff, student, or community member at Kansas State University and in the Manhattan area. People in various departments, majors, and fields across campus and Manhattan are encouraged to become a Safe Zone Ally.
